“The Committee on Government Efficiency may consider and report upon bills and matters referred to it relating to the efficiency of state government and its programs” (House Rule 24(19)).

“The joint committee shall:
- “Make a continuing study and analysis of inefficiencies, fraud and misconduct in state government;
- “Determine the appropriate method of obtaining data on each entity of state government that will provide relevant information at least biennially for the identification of potential and actual inefficiencies in each state entity’s function, duties, and performance;
- “Determine from its study and analysis the need for changes in statutory law, rules, or policies; and
- “Make any other recommendation to the general assembly necessary to reduce inefficiencies in state government;
- “Identify and acknowledge government agencies and officials who perform functions in an efficient and effective manner” (Missouri Statute 21.820).

“The Committee on Government Efficiency shall review, study, and investigate all matters referred to it
relating to the application, administration, execution, and effectiveness of all state laws and programs, the
organization, operation, consolidation, or abolition of state agencies and other entities having responsibility for the administration and execution of state laws and programs, and any conditions or circumstances that may indicate the necessity or desirability of enacting new or additional legislation to improve the efficiency of any state law or program” (Senate Rule 28(11)).
